DISCIPLINE POLICY FOR PRETEEN & TEEN CAMP

In order to provide the best camp possible it is essential to maintain an environment of safety and order. Above all - your safety is our greatest concern - we expect everyone to respect and follow the rules and policies of camp so together we can have a safe, fun filled, amazing time. We have established the following procedures and policies regarding discipline at camp. We want you to be aware of this and request that teens / preteens and parents review it together prior to their departure for camp.

We have instituted a 2-strike approach to discipline. We recognize that different behaviours require different approaches; however the safety of each camper and the camp as a whole will not be compromised.

Each camper will be in a small group with a designated leader who will be responsible for offering counsel, direction, friendship, support and encouragement whilst at the same time ensuring that safety and security guidelines are maintained. Campers will be expected to respect this line of authority.

Examples of behaviors requiring discipline: Obscenity, lewdness, disrespect, disobedience or blatant disregard of authority, disruptive behavior, possession of illegal substances, fighting and sexual activity.

Strike 1 Discipline - No warnings given, immediate expulsion from camp:

  • Physical fighting
  • Possession of drugs or alcohol
  • Sexual activity
  • Stealing
  • Malicious damage of property
  • Leaving camp grounds (except in the case of emergency care)

Strike 2 Discipline - One warning, second offense means expulsion from camp:

  • Breaking curfew* (a camper should only be out of their cabin after lights out for one of the following reasons: use of toilets, visit to the First Aid person or camp leader for care or medication, an emergency situation)
  • Boys entering the girl's dorm or girls entering the boy's dorm for any reason other than expressed permission given by a leader.
  • Obscenity or lewdness
  • Disrespect
  • Disruptive behavior
  • Disturbing the peace after lights out

* Everyone should be inside their dorms and lights out at midnight. Between 11pm & midnight fellowship is restricted to your own dorm. Preteen camp will operate a lights out policy at 11pm.

Do not bring electronic gadgets to camp such as iPods, mp3 players, Nintendo DS etc., If you are seen with any items along these lines they will be taken away from you until the end of camp. Mobile phones are permitted but should only be used during designated free time to make phone calls. If they are used at any other time including after lights out they will be taken away from you and returned at the end of camp.

A final area of behavior that should be addressed is clothing. Please make sure your  clothes are appropriate - clothing that exposes underwear, does not cover adequately or is suggestive in nature is not acceptable. Teens wearing inappropriate clothing will be asked to change.
